  • This and That

Thrift store find of the week!

Each of these series sells for $49.00 a piece.  I got all four seasons for $8.00.

Holly said, “Mom THIS is why we love thrifting!”

One morning this week I got a call from Queena inviting us for a spur of the moment hot-dog roast for lunch.  They were burning some brush and what’s better on these crisp fall days then a hot dog with the grandkids!

James is trying hard to get these hot-dogs open.  His teeth come in pretty handy!  Queena chopping up onions and getting the huge portabella mushrooms ready.   Talk about good!

If you look close you can see a granddaddy longleg spider on Dories arm.  James is trying to brush it off.

How safe is our dinner on that board?

    Beautiful, Lush Color!

I’ve been busy cutting these strings putting together another string quilt.

Remember this picture of Grandma Schultz?  She loves piecing the string quilts and I told her I would love to cut one for her to do.   She is making this one for her great granddaughter Erica.

Here is a picture of Grandma with Erica on our right.     Erica helped me pick out the colors and chose the rich green and orange pallet.

I sewed together four of the squares this morning to see how they would look.

I’m loving it and want to sew more but will take them over to Grandma Schultz and let her work on them.

Timmy has been busy lately cutting down a lot of trees.

And clearing a nice big spot in the woods.

Last evening look what came down the road.

My baby is getting ready to leave home!

  • I have missed your posts! Love to see the sewing circle and all that lovely hand work. Good to see Queena and the kidlets! the autumn colors of Erica’s quilt are lovely. What a lovely setting for Tim’s home! Your thrift store find was quite the treasure! Very nice entries for me to catch up on!

  • You have got to be the luckiest thrifter I know!!  I seldom find anything that spectacular.  I love the string quilt — such beautiful colors.  Very appropriate for this time of year.  Nothing better than hot dogs and limas in the woods (if I could get my little ones to eat limas — yummy!).  Your little ones are absolutely adorable and look like they are having a fun time.  And a new house to boot — what a busy month for you and the family :)

  • Wow!  Wouldn’t I love to go Thrift Store shopping with you!  You are a lucky gal.  Oh well, maybe I can find some on Ebay.  Thanks for the idea.    Happy quilting.

  • Beautiful colors for that string quilt!  I’m hoping that Tim’s home isn’t too far from home!

  • Wow Mom, every time I look at your Xanga site, I get sooo homesick!  I wish I were living in Delaware.

  • Has Tim set his weding day? I love the bright colors of the string quilt. Can’t wait to see what Grandma Schultz sews. And I too love your thrift store find. May I borrow them? One at a time?

  • I love those spur of the moment invites too. When I read the “Beautiful, lush color” caption, I was still looking at the picture of those wonderful limas, hotdogs, the red rimmed plate, the colorful clothes of Dorie and James! My mouth was watering in spite of the spider!

  • I love how you take moments for fun with your grandkids!! you are such a good grandma! I can’t believe your baby is getting married!! That quilt is going to be lovely! … Erica is all grown up!

  • Such a sweet post, Polly-dear!  And even though I am happy that Tim has found a good girl to marry and set up housekeeping with (wouldn’t Grandpa be so proud and interested and nosy?) yet I am really glad it isn’t my baby getting married!  That sounds like we are getting so old.  We aren’t, really, are we???????????????  No, wait.  Don’t answer that question, because I am way ahead of you on that game.  Anyhow– I loved the post.

  • Love your Thrift store find. Nothing fills in the empty space in my creativity, like watching a show or two!

  • I love to see the family photos!  How Queena and Ethan’s little ones are growing!  Your beautiful colors in your quilts always amaze and inspire me.  Timmy has quite a place now!  Wow!

  • Picking out a prom dress can be as official as selecting a dress for any wedding. It calls for a lot of preparing right from the type of dress, the fabric, the size, the colour, how to order this, the add-ons with the gown, and so on. You will find special shops that specialize in the actual designing associated with designer prom dresses. These types of stores have collections through popular creative designers like Alfred Angelo, Alyce Styles, Attitudes, Cachet, Cassandra Rock, Forever Your own, Glam Gurlz, Haley Nicole, Jasz Fashion and Jessica McClintock. Typically the most popular vintage prom dresses tend to be satin, sequined, classic and the classic little black dress. For additional flash choose the asymmetrical hem, the bustier dress, the actual halter, the hanky hem or the traditional Cinderella ball dress.
