Goldilocks and Patchwork
What is going on at our house?

The title gives it away... we are enjoying a game of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears!"

Here's an update on Timmy and Diana's wedding quilt. You know I spent 9 days at sewing retreat piecing their red and white Burgoyne Surround Quilt. I then spent the next week marking it getting it ready for the next step!

These blue Fine Point Mark-B-Gone Pen's are wonderful.
And yes, the blue will wash out when the quilting is done!

That step took a whole week. Then this past week I spent sewing thin batting pieces on with water soluble thread.

Yes you heard me right, water soluble thread. I did the stitching just inside the blue lines sewing from the front side of the quilt. This will make since after I show you the rest of the fun steps!

Now for the next two weeks I'll be using my little sharp scissors! Snip, snip, snip!
Cutting as close to the sewing line as I can.

Remember I am doing machine trapundo.
Other happenings at our house:
Holly has moved to a new location and is excited about buying her first home. She has invited Ethan and Queena to move in with her until their time to leave for Malaysia.
The other evening they invited Mark and I to join them for a delicious Indian meal!

I forget the name of the dish but some of you might recongize it. Ethan made the fry bread, Holly the rice and Queena the main dish.

We were happy to hear that all of Ethan and Queena's support has come in. We're not so happy to realize that soon we will be saying goodbye to Dorie, James and their mommy and daddy and knowing they will be moving halfway around the world!

Keep this dear family in your prayers. It is an exciting time for them and it is a joy seeing how God is leading and knowing He will be with them each step of the way.

You are such a fun Grandma! "Goldilocks and the Three Bears"!! Who would have thought! And oh, my, I know you will miss those kiddos. But knowing that they are doing the Lord's will makes all the difference. And I am loving this lesson in Trapunto. That quilt is beautiful!!
Love the three bears adventure! So sweet ~
You certainly have been busy, busy, busy since we were together! That quilt is going to be a masterpiece! I love the square plates the Indian meal was served on. Malaysia is a long way off, but it won't seem nearly as far in this day and age. When the pioneers left home in covered wagons, many times it was for forever. God bless them as they follow His calling and bless you too as you given them your blessing to go! I know you have.
Ah, the deal about your children going so far away....I've been on both ends of that. We spent 16 years in Guatemala so far from "home and family", only to realize a long time into the stint, that Guatemala WAS home. Now, with 2 of our children there where they consider home and us in the States, I can really understand what our parents felt. But, knowing they are in the center of HIS will is much better than having them close and not in HIS will. God bless them as they serve HIM in that part of HIS vineyard. God bless you, too as you deal with the emotions that will come. (If they haven't already come.
)
I love your Burgoyne Surrounded quilt--they have such lovely, lovely spaces for quilting. (I've been thinking I should make another, having made several lapsize ones over 20 years ago, I may need to make a full size one.) Your red and white one is lovely, and the quilting and trapunto will make it spectacular!
This wedding quilt will be such a treasure to the newlyweds -- LOTS of love stitched within!! Malaysia is quite far, but the world just gets smaller and smaller -- especially with Skype :) May GOD richly bless their family, their ministry and use them in a mighty way to further HIS kingdom!! I will add them to our missionary prayer cards. I love Holly's plates... do you happen to know where she found them?
This post has so many mind and heart boggling things to take in that I feel like I cannot quite really assimilate it! Oh, Polly, how special it is to have those grandbabies here, and even though they are soon leaving, you are certainly "marking the memories" with intent and perseverance. They will remember, I am confident of that.
And that wedding quilt! I can't wait to see the end result! I confess that I am very confused about what you are doing, but I am sure i will understand better when it is all done, and I can look back at the steps along the way. Thinking of you and your family in these intense, but wonderfully exciting days.
How did the machine trapunto turn out? I really want to try that by hand.
