Dr. Seuss
I’m playing with Dr. Seuss today!
I remember a conversation I once had with Grandmother Vera. She was talking about her love of sewing and working with fabrics. As she rubbed her fingers together and broke out in a big smile she said, “I just love the feel of calicos between my fingers.”
I know just how she felt!
This will be Dorie’s and Summer’s quilt. I have enough fabric to make two!
The pattern is one of my sister Barbara’s that will be published in her new book. Yay!
On Tues. this week a group of ladies from our church made the annual trip up to Ephrata, PA to spend the day working at the MCC Resource Center.
We had a wonderful quilt to work on. It was easy quilting with no seams to struggle over. Mable and Josie putting their beautiful stitching into this quilt.
This day always brings much laughter as we work with our hands and our hearts are merry. Irene and daughter-in-law Queena working side by side.
Darlene usually works at one of the sewing machines at our monthly sewing circle. It was a treat seeing her at the quilt.
Here are some quilts that MCC had in the work room ready for other groups to come in and do.
This one was handing on the front wall. It will be sold at the Pa. MCC auction in the fall.

I will be following the progress on these quilts. Lucky ladies – Summer and Dorie!
Love the quilt for the little girls, how sweet and fun that is. Wonderful quilts. A feast for my eyes. I like your Grandmother’s quote. I know when my hands feel empty and I rub my fingers together I know I need to get some handwork to work on, maybe not to feel calico but I know that itchy feeling. Recently our son Boy Genius said much the same thing and rubbed his fingers together and said “sometimes I just have to find something to work on”. He has been that way since he was a tiny boy. A very nice post Polly.Do you have any garden in?
@Lucy_or_Ethel - Lucy I’m laughing! I like fabric between my fingers, NOT DIRT!
I know your fingers have been itching to get a hold of those Dr. Seuss fabrics!! You are going to have two very excited and thankful little girls. When does Max get his quilt?
I have spent the last couple of days looking for little boy fabrics
Love all of the quilts, but especially the Dr. Seuss one — a great design!
nice post !!
Polly, I know exactly what you mean by loving the feeling of fabric not dirt between your fingers! I despaired of ever becoming that Mennonite gardener that a lot of my peers are. I hate the feeling of dirt under my fingernails. Probably explains why my flower beds don’t look so wonderful. I did discover the Square Foot gardening a couple of years ago and that is more to my liking but still I’d rather be working with fabric! I really love that bargello quilt. It is beautiful.
What a fun day at MCC quilting with the other ladies. They sure put out some nice and attractive quilts. I’m with you and Sweaters4u2 in not liking dirt under my fingernails. And I too despair of ever becoming that Mennonite gardener that a lot of my peers are. … I remember you talking about your Dr. Seuss fabric and I couldn’t get excited about it. But now that I see your quilt, it is just wonderful! Dorie & Summer are lucky girls. When did you change your mind and decide to make a quilt for each ofthe grands?
Polly, that pattern will not be in my new book, it is one I designed for Phyllis and she sales the pattern at Patchwork Plus. What a fun day of quilting. Looking forward to spend two days next week with you.
WOW! The Dr Seuss quilt is BUSY!
The joy you must feel in getting together with like mineded women working with your hands. “Merry hearts” for sure. The Dr. Suess quilt is darling. The girls will relive all his books as they look at their quilts. They will love them!
Polly, I just love the Dr.Suess project………love the bright colors and design!
